Immersive Reader is a part of the Office Learning Tools meant to support students with dyslexia and dysgraphia. Word (online) and One Note allow students to read in the Immersive Reader view, which offers a full-screen reading experience with additional visual options.
In the online version of both Word and One Note select the “View” tab, then launch Immersive Reader for modified reading view and read aloud functions. Some of the selections available include text options such as font choice and inverse color options. Often students with visual impairments find reading white text on a black background easier on their eyes. Students can choose the size of the font and line reading options to focus their reading. Additional features available for struggling readers are parts of speech color-coding and syllable breakdown. Both support students in recognizing parts of speech and decoding word parts or use it for a whole class activity. The immersive reader feature can support our English Language Learners, students with visual impairments, and literacy across the curriculum.
