Pin apps to Start
Pin the apps you use most often to the Start menu. Here’s how:
-
Go to Start > All Apps.
-
Press and hold (or right-click) an app.
-
Select Pin to Start.
Rule the web with Microsoft Edge
Microsoft Edge is the first browser that lets you take notes, write, doodle, and highlight directly on webpages. Use the reading list to save your favorite articles for later, then read them in reading view. Hover over open tabs to preview them, and bring your favorites and reading list with you when you use Microsoft Edge on another device. Plus, Cortana is built in to Microsoft Edge to help you do things faster and easier.
A new look for settings
Settings got a makeover—and dropped “PC” from its name.
Get to Settings by selecting the Start button, and then selecting Settings. From there, browse the categories or use search to find what you’re looking for, including advanced options in Control Panel.
Most apps have their own settings—look for this icon in the app.
Tip
Change common settings (like airplane mode and Wi‑Fi) on the fly from action center on the taskbar.
Use your PC like a tablet
Tablet mode makes Windows easier and more intuitive to use with touch on devices like 2-in-1s, or when you don’t want to use a keyboard and mouse. To turn on tablet mode, select action center on the taskbar and then select Tablet mode.
Start and apps (including older programs) open full screen, giving you more space to work in. To use two apps side by side, drag an app to one side. You’ll see where it’ll snap, along with any open apps that can snap right next to it.
In tablet mode, there are a few more things you can do:
-
Use the shared edge between two snapped apps to resize both at the same time.
-
Select Task view on the taskbar and then drag an app to a side to snap it directly from task view.
-
Use the back button on the taskbar to go back in an app or to the previous app you were using.
-
Drag an app to the bottom of the screen to close it.
For more about using touch, see Use touch with Windows.
Note
Some devices can turn on tablet mode automatically. Support for this feature depends on the hardware, which driver is installed, and how the device was set up by the manufacturer. To find out if your device support this, go to your device manufacturer’s website and search for your device.
Make your PC easier to use
Setting up your PC to make it more accessible takes only a few steps. Most Ease of Access options are available in Settings. Select the Start button, then select Settings > Ease of Access .
Commonly used options are also available from the sign-in screen. Select the Ease of Access button in the lower-right corner to see them.
Ease of Access options can help make it easier to:
-
Use your PC without a display. Narrator lets you hear audio descriptions for elements on the screen, like text and buttons.
-
See what’s on the screen. Make the content on your screen bigger using Magnifier, or use high contrast mode.
-
Use your keyboard. Turn on Sticky Keys, Toggle Keys, Filter Keys, or the On-Screen Keyboard.
-
Use your mouse. Change the pointer size, or turn on Mouse Keys to use your keypad to move the mouse.
